Tenae Washington, 23, is a native of Richmond, VA and a 2020 graduate of Radford University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science with a specialization in Strength and Conditioning. She later completed the educational requirements to become a certified personal trainer and is currently studying to become a certified Strength and Conditioning Coach as well. Tenae is also CPR Certified. Tenae is the owner and lead trainer of her own Sports Performance Company, G.U.T.S. (G.iving U. T.he S.trength). Tenae has obtained high school athletic training experience through her involvement with the Varina High School football team as a part of her studies to receive her certificate for Sports Performance Workforce Readiness through Hermitage High School Technical Center. For two consecutive years, Tenae was also a Division 1 Intern with the Strength and Conditioning program at Radford University as she helped soccer, lacrosse, golf, and cross country track and field collegiate athletes enhance their sport specific performance. Tenae has volunteer experience working with youth athletes at DNA Fitness under the instruction of owner, Darryl Ellis. Tenae is currently performing as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach and hurdle coach for Highland Springs High School’s Track & Field team for their off-season preparation.
Tenae’s love for fitness and sports came early in her adolescent years. She has been a committed Track & Field athlete for 16 years. Her journey with the sport began as an AAU athlete and continued through her years with John Rolf Middle School and Varina High School. Tenae left Varina High School as the 2016 5A state runner-up in the 500 meters and placed third in the 300 hurdles, after only competing in hurdles for one year! Tenae left Varina High School as Varina’s Female Athlete Of The Year, three-time indoor MVP and two-time outdoor MVP. By far, Tenae’s greatest accomplishment of her Track & Field career was to be Varina High School’s First Female Athlete to receive a FULL Track & Field Scholarship to a D1 University (Radford University).
Tenae no longer runs track as a competing athlete, but she still runs to “train” like an athlete. Tenae’s first love will always be to work with athletes to help them train and prepare their physical and mental state for the next level of competition, but she also understands that you don’t have to be an athlete to look, feel and train like an athlete. As a member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Tenae's passion for fitness and health falls in line with her Sorority mission to "Enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service." While focusing on her athlete’s best performance, she is also committed to helping the “every day” person to live a healthier and more physical lifestyle by training them with an “athlete” state of mind. G.U.T.S. was birthed in 2018 to challenge anyone desiring a new level of physical fitness. Do YOU have the G.U.T.S. to train with Tenae? Sign up today to birth the athlete in YOU!
